Huawei Problems Become Blessings for Nokia

Jakarta - The entry of Huawei in the American blacklist recognized by Nokia can provide benefits for him. This was revealed directly by Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri.

He said that this was a long-term opportunity for Nokia. This is related to restrictions on vendors from China in getting the supply of products and services from companies from the land of Uncle Sam.

"But more than that, it's difficult to say at this time," he said, as quoted from the South China Morning Post, Tuesday (05/28/2019).

Huawei and Nokia do have rivalry in the telecommunications facilities sector. Both, sequentially, held a market share of 28% and 17% in 2018, based on data from research firm Dell'Oro Group. This makes them the frontrunners in the sector.

The restrictions imposed on Huawei certainly benefit Nokia in securing contracts to provide 5G with a number of countries. The same advantage also applies to Ericsson, the ruler of 13% market share for global telecommunications facilities throughout 2018.

This has also begun to appear. Recently, Nokia reportedly immediately signed a contract with the operator U Mobile Malaysia to provide 5G services whose trial is scheduled to take place this year.

Overall, Nokia claims it has secured 37 commercial 5G contracts, slightly more than the new Huawei signed 30 contracts, while Ericsson has announced it has received 16 contracts.

In addition to competing with Huawei and Ericsson in telecommunications facilities, Nokia is also continuing to work in the mobile sector. Globally, he is ranked 9th with shipping rates reaching 17.5 million units throughout 2018, an increase of 126% compared to the previous year.

Even so, Nokia's worldwide market share is still 1%. However, he is indeed one of the few vendors that shows an increase in shipping, which cannot even be achieved by big names like Apple.
